In this month’s home inspection picture, we see a common electrical issue that we find during home inspections here in Vail Colorado. The middle breaker in the picture to the left has what is called a double tap, or two wires in the same breaker. There are some breakers (such as a typical Square-D breaker) that are made to be double tapped. The breaker to the right is not one of them. There are risks of some arching, repetitive tripping, and other issues when there is a double tap present in a panel. It is not usually a “big” concern, but should be corrected when possible.
