In our last blog, we discussed some of the negative effects hard water can have on the proper functioning of our homes. While these issues are an obvious annoyance, could they be more than that? Could our health be affected? What can we do to get rid of hard water?
Should hard water cause us concern?
Hard water leaves a soapy scum that is harder to rinse, this means that when left on our skin, we could develop certain skin irritations etc. Nevertheless, it is worth mentioning that according to WHO, there is no convincing evidence that hard water adversely affects a person’s health. In fact, possibly due the content of certain minerals, the only conclusive evidence from studies has shown that hard water could help the body to fight disease. So, its possible that hard water has certain benefits.
If the hard water in our home is becoming too much of a problem to us though, can we do something about it?
There are various options for treating hard water. Water softeners are used to remove undesirable minerals in the water. Its best to do some research on water softeners though, as at times you may end up having too much sodium in the water, making it undrinkable. You can also use water conditioners. Again, its best to do some research to decide what is the best option for you.
